Every piece of wiki jargon in one place — market terms, product terms, and our own coinages. Sorted alphabetically; each term is a heading, so it can be linked by anchor. The Russian page carries the fuller definitions; this page is the brief pair. New terms go here, not into per-page mini-glossaries.

Adversarial review (адверсариальная проверка)

Fact-checking where independent agents try to DISPROVE the text against primary sources rather than confirm it. The seven-country page survived one: 44 claims confirmed, 16 corrected.

Aggregator (агрегатор)

An app that bundles fragmented purchases into one place (e.g. all of a country's fishing permits, like Sweden's iFiske). In Latvia the license-aggregator wedge is dead — Mana Cope owns sales — so we integrate, not aggregate.

B2B / B2C / B2G

Who we sell to: consumers (anglers), businesses (pond owners, tackle shops, brands), or government. Our money is likelier in B2B/B2G than in angler subscriptions.

CAC

Customer acquisition cost: marketing spend per new user or payer. Phase 0 targets near-zero CAC via quiet seeding in free channels.

Check-in (чек-ин)

A one-tap "I am here now" mark.

Cohort (когорта)

A group of users who arrived in the same week, tracked separately: did THEY come back, not "someone somewhere".

Cold start (холодный старт)

The empty-product problem: no reports → useless map → nobody reports. Cured by seeding data and launching at a traffic peak (first ice).

Compliance (комплаенс)

Following the rules and the law. For the angler: "am I fishing legally?"; for us: a whole wedge — make the legal obligation painless.

Conversion (конверсия)

The share moving to the funnel's next step: visitor → registered, free → paying. Category benchmark for paid subscriptions: 1.5–3% of MAU (RevenueCat median 1.7%, Fishbrain 1.4%).

Critical path (критический путь)

The task chain that sets the whole project's deadline: slip any link and the finish slips. Ours: Konstantins' answers + the survey.

Crowdsourcing (краудсорсинг)

Collecting data from the users themselves. Works for non-sensitive data (depths, ice, rules); breaks on bite spots.

Customer discovery / custdev (кастдев)

Talking to real users instead of guessing: interviews, surveys, observed behavior. Ours right now: 11 questions to Konstantins plus the survey.

Data flywheel (маховик данных)

A self-reinforcing loop: more reports → better map → more anglers → even more reports. The specialized 10% spin it; the casual 90% consume aggregates.

DAU / MAU

Daily / monthly active users. The DAU/MAU ratio separates habit from occasional visits; L7 = days active out of the last seven.

A link straight into the right place of another service — e.g. from our app directly to buying a specific license in Mana Cope. The working tool of "integrate, don't aggregate".

Design freeze (заморозка дизайна)

The moment the feature set stops changing: build only, add nothing. Mid-August in the phase plan.

Doorway pages / programmatic SEO (страницы-приманки)

Auto-generated pages made by the thousand so Google finds the site. Fishbrain's Denmark page lists bass — a fish Denmark does not have: a template built it, no human looked.

Feed (лента)

A social feed of catch photos — Instagram, but fish. Fishbrain's core product and the losing move on all seven Baltic markets.

Freemium (фримиум)

Base product free, premium paid. Casual anglers are the freemium audience: they won't pay, but they feed liquidity and click the deep links.

Funnel (воронка)

The user's path in steps: heard → opened → registered → returned → paid. People drop at each step; the funnel shows where.

Gate (гейт)

A checkpoint with criteria written down in advance: read the numbers, then continue or rebuild. Pre-committed thresholds, not "maybe" — the go/no-go between phases.

Heatmap (тепловая карта)

Activity shown as color "heat" over zones, no individual points. Ours ship with k-anonymity and a publishing delay, so the bite window closes before the crowd arrives.

Incumbent (старожил, инкумбент)

The player already sitting on the market when you arrive: Mana Cope, the forums, the FB groups. In Poland the incumbents digitized the rail themselves and the window closed.

k-anonymity (k-анонимность)

A privacy rule: a point or heat cell renders only when at least K people stand behind it, so no individual can be singled out.

Lead (лид)

A potential customer who left contact info or showed interest but hasn't bought. Phase 0's winter waitlist is lead collection for the first-ice launch.

Liquidity (ликвидность)

Enough live users nearby for the product to be useful: an empty report map means no liquidity. The category's core scarcity — nobody built it in seven countries.

Moat (ров)

Buffett's term: the business is a castle, the moat is the water around its walls. Protection from copying — what keeps a competitor from taking your users even when he sees everything you do and has more money. An advantage helps today; a moat keeps working under attack. Ours = local liquidity × trust.

MRR / ARR

Monthly / annual recurring revenue from subscriptions. The brutal math: 400–800 payers yield only ~€10–25k ARR — consumer subscriptions alone are not a business.

MVP

Minimum viable product: the smallest version you can hand to real users to test the core hypothesis. Ours is the Phase 1 ice mode.

Network effect (сетевой эффект)

The product gets more useful as more people use it. In fishing the effect is local: Fishbrain's US millions buy nothing on a Latvian lake.

Onboarding (онбординг)

The user's first minutes in the product: how fast they see why it's for them. 35% of annual-plan cancellations happen in month one — onboarding must prove value immediately.

P2P

Peer-to-peer deals: angler pays angler (paid knowledge sharing, guiding, teaching) with the app as the middleman. See P2P opportunity.

Paywall (пейволл)

A payment barrier: content or features visible to subscribers only. Fishbrain's most hated move was paywalling community reports; our principle P10 forbids it.

"Present but dead" (присутствует, но мёртв)

The app can be downloaded but nobody uses it: the country is formally "covered", actually empty. Fishbrain's diagnosis in all seven Baltic countries, home market included.

Put-and-take pond (платник)

A paid stocked pond: pay, catch, keep. "What's biting" there is the owner's merchandise, not a shared secret — so the layer dodges the secret-spot problem; booking is undigitized region-wide.

PWA

A web app that opens from a link and installs to the phone like a normal app, bypassing the app stores: faster to ship, instant to update. Phase 0 ships as a PWA.

Rail (рельс)

The mandatory transaction: whatever the angler must buy or file with the state — permit, license, catch report. Whoever owns the rail owns the flow of anglers; on all seven Baltic markets the feed lost to the rail owner.

Retention (удержание)

Do users come back: the share of a cohort seen again a week or month later. Phase 0's gate metric — real weekly returns, not downloads.

Rival good (конкурентное благо)

A good that degrades when shared: a fishing spot — share it, lose it. Opposite: non-rival (fuel prices don't change when everyone knows them). The wiki's core thesis rests on this distinction.

Sonar / fish finder (эхолот)

A device that shows depth and fish below the surface. Deeper's home is Lithuania; a decade of sonars in anglers' pockets built no social network by itself.

Spot burning (палить точки)

Publicly exposing fishing spots — the culture's central taboo ("share it, lose it"). Fishbrain never lived down "the spot-burner app"; our defense is principles P1–P6.

Stakeholder (стейкхолдер)

Everyone with a stake besides the users themselves: pond owners, tackle shops, clubs, VVD, BIOR, municipalities. Each pays in its own currency — money, data, or legitimacy.

Table-stakes

The ante: the mandatory minimum that gets you a seat at the table but wins nothing. Our rules engine is exactly that — required, but no moat.

Utility (утилита)

A useful tool with no social layer: rules, maps, checks. Phase 0 is pure utility, deliberately feed-free.

"Verify precisely, publish coarsely" (проверяй точно — публикуй грубо)

Our geolocation rule: the app privately records exact GPS as proof of honesty, but publicly shows only the waterbody/sector. Precision buys trust and report weight; it never burns spots. External echo: Norway's laksebørs publish river totals, never locations.

Wedge (клин)

The market entry point: the gap a new product can slip through and hold without fighting everyone at once. A wedge is a window, not a moat — it lives only while the state rail is bad (Estonia's lesson).

Winner-take-most

In locally-networked markets the second player on the same lake gets almost nothing. Hence the bet on speed to first ice.

WTP / willingness to pay (готовность платить)

What a person will actually spend. A Latvian angler's app ceiling: €19.99–29.99/year; the full WTP ladder — from a €1.50 fishing card to hundreds of euros on a boat — is in segments.
